Miscellaneous manuscripts (Large), ca. 1881, n.d.

One sepia photograph mounted with the title "Officers of the U. S. Steamer Alliance." The list of officers pasted on the back gives the name of the commander as G. H. Wadleigh, who was in charge of the ship in 1881-1882 during a mission to the Arctic in search of the lost ship Jeannette. Wadleigh does not appear in the group photograph, but the accompanying mounted undated portrait photograph of a man in naval uniform of high rank is likely of him.
